Di tutte le cose che ANT poteva raccontarci a proposito del nuovo disco che stava scrivendo, la prima fu che ogni canzone trovava il modo di menzionare qualche tipo di volatile. Lì per lì non sembrò una notizia da farci molto caso, c’erano ancora tante altre cose a cui pensare, me ne dimenticai.
Poi è arrivata la traccia che apre l’album, Kisses On A Plate, e il primo verso dice “I’ll pick all the apples from the tree till I find the one good enough for you”. All’improvviso, cercare di ricordarsi l’ultima volta che ci è capitato di staccare una mela da un albero sembra quasi “strano”, vero? Avvicinare una mano ai rami, spostare le foglie, cogliere una mela abbastanza matura, sdraiarsi sull’erba al sole e dare un morso.
Immagina la scena mentre fai partire questo disco. Cerca di ricordarti com’era il cielo sereno quando avevi tutta la serenità per restare a guardarlo. Il colore, la luce, il vento che soffiava. Il cielo era pieno del canto degli uccelli. Poche cose tanto vorticose riescono invece a raccontare la tranquillità così bene come un cielo pieno del canto degli uccelli. Il suono limpido delle ballate di ANT fa da ideale colonna sonora a questa calma. Il filo conduttore del disco era lì davanti, semplice, bastava soltanto riuscire ad ascoltarlo. Canzoni d’amore per un cielo terso.
Il vero nome di ANT è Antony Harding (ex-Hefner) e questo disco “The Birds Sing Goodnight To You And Me” è stato registrato a Järfälla (Sweden) e concluso poi insieme all’amico Darren Hayman in Walthamstow, London. Darren ha poi anche mixato il disco. Tanti ospiti hanno collaborato alle registrazioni, Darren Hayman, John Morrison & Jack Hayter (Hefner), Suzanne Rhatigan, James Milne (Cornershop) e Dave Watkins.
Of all the things that ANT could tell us about the new album he was writing, the first was that every song mentions some kind of bird. At the moment, I didn’t think much of it…as there where many other things to think about. Then the album started with “Kisses On A Plate”, and the first verse said: “I’ll pick all the apples from the tree till I find the one good enough for you”. Suddenly, trying to remember the last time I happened to pull an apple from a tree. It seems strange, right? Bring a hand to the branches, rustling the leaves, picking an apple mature enough, lying on the grass in the sun, taking a bite. Imagine this scene as you start the record. Try to remember how clear was the sky when you had all the serenity to keep watching it. The color, the light, the wind blowing. The sky was full of bird-song. These swirling, sung images convey the tranquility of such a sky. Calm, serene, and full of bird-song. The clear sound of the ballads of ANT makes this ideal come alive. The theme of the album was there before me, simple, requiring me only to listen. Songs of love for a clear sky.
ANT is Antony Harding (member of Hefner) and “The Birds Sing Goodnight To You And Me” was recorded in the spring of 2011 at his home in Järfälla (Sweden), finished and mixed with Darren Hayman in Walthamstow, London. Featuring special guest appearances by Darren Hayman, John Morrison & Jack Hayter (Hefner), Suzanne Rhatigan, James Milne (Cornershop), and Dave Watkins.
Together with the album comes the official music video for “Fireworks In This Small Town Tonight” from the new album, “The Birds Sing Goodnight to You and Me.” A stop motion animation music video created by: Sahar El-Ghali & Amy El-Ghali.
